I COULD BE YOU

I

She looked at me with pain filled eyes

She seemed to read my mind

“I could be you”, she mouthed the words,

“Some place, some other time.”

I drove right through the changing light

Horns blaring as I went.

I had to make just one more store

Before the day was spent.

I swerved in time to miss a man

Who held a cardboard sign.

A homeless man, who’d work for food.

Thank God I’d braked in time.

I parked my ride and looked around

Then groaned at what I saw.

A sea of cars parked everywhere

The world was at the mall!

“Oh, Lord,” I thought, “it comes again.”

The season of excess.

When want and greed are king and queen

And reign in selfishness.

Then smiling wide, I grabbed my purse

This was my time to shop.

And for the homeless on the streets

I had no time for thought!

But just outside the store front door

A homeless woman sat.

She was dirty and disgusting

With a child upon her lap.

She looked at me with pain filled eyes

She seemed to read my mind.

“I could be you”, she mouthed the words,

“Some place, some other time.”

I turned my head, I walked right past

My conscience now was sore.

But with each purchase that I made

I’d see her at the door.

Then passing by a manger scene

I had to gaze awhile

For the Virgin and the Baby

Looked like the woman and her child.

Remembering that pain filled look

And how she’d read my mind,

“I could be you,” she mouthed the words

Some place, some other time!”

With no more thought I turned around

My Christmas I would share!

But the woman and her baby,

They were no longer there.

Just a note upon the sidewalk

A scribbled cardboard sign,

“I could be you”, she wrote to me,

“Some place, some other time.”

Merry Christmas to all my Family and Friends!!!

Luke 2: For this day is born to you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord, in the city of David. And this shall be a sign unto you. You shall find the infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and laying in a manger.

THE PARIS KISS

On the corner of a Paris street,
In France so far away,
Lovely things can happen,
On any given day

In the evening rain of Paris,
A woman out of place,
Fearful of her future,
Yet with excitement on her face.
Her world had changed, now here she was,
A woman seeking love,
So many miles away from home,
What was she thinking of?
But where and when, how long it’d take,
Would she ever love again?
The ache and need stormed over her,
Like the rain upon her skin.
With water streaming down her cheeks,
Her tears not unobserved,
But witnessed from the shadows,
By a man upon the curb.
She’d caught his eye, and then his breath,
And stunned, he took quick steps,
Toward the beauty standing there,
He had to taste such lips.
Sweet hunger over-took him,
As he smelled her sweet perfume,
Then as he reached her, time stood still,
Beneath that Paris moon.
Startled she looked up to find,
Him just a breath away
She tried to run, but couldn't move,
She knew she had to stay.
Her heart beat fast, her lips went dry,
Her knees began to shake.
Was this a vision, just a dream,
Or was she wide awake?
When he touched her trembling hand,
She knew that he was real,
And couldn’t help but wonder,
Just how his lips would feel.
He slowly bent his face to hers,
Lips melted into bliss,
She danced within the arms of love
And thrilled to their first kiss.

DONNA'S FAVORITE VERSION OF COWGIRL UP!!

“It’s time”, she said “to cowgirl up”,
Then waltzed right through the door.
The challenge called, her boots hit hard,
When she stepped onto the floor.

Dressed to dance, she was dressed to win,
In her boots and skin tight jeans.
She tossed her hair and flashed her smile,
Like a cowboy beauty queen.

She took the floor like a star on stage,
All eyes were drawn her way.
The greatest speaker ever heard,
Never had that much to say.

Like she did when she moved her hips just right,
Like she did when she held a cowboy tight.
So Cowgirl up; take the floor,
Beneath the neon light!

She stomped her boots and ground her heels,
Then twisted to the right.
She strutted out across the boards,
And knew she'd win this fight!

The band played loud, it rocked her soul,
As she slid and kicked and spun.
The room went wild with screams and shouts,
She knew that she had won!

When the music stopped, she took a bow,
Then turned and walked away.
(Yeah) The greatest speaker ever heard
Never had THAT much to say

Like she did when she moved her hips just right.
Like she did when she held a cowboy tight
So Cowgirl up, take the floor
And win that dance tonight!

NOT YOUR SOMETIMES GIRL

Going out in my little black dress
To take back what you stole
I’ll dance tonight in neon arms
At some all night rodeo

You crushed my heart and hurt my pride
You rearranged my world
You lied and cheated bad on me,
Now I won't be your Girl!!

No, I won't be your sometimes girl
And I'll not be your pet,
I'll no longer be an option
Nor the girl that you forget!

You broke my heart, you bruised my soul
And then you made me cry
I'll show you, dude, I won't be used
And here’s the reason why!

A Cowboy Princess won’t be used
So you won’t soil my name
My reputation won’t be trashed
Cos I won’t play your game

You hear that sound? I slammed the door!
I’m walking out on you!
But in case you haven’t got it yet,
Oh baby we are through!

No, I won't be your sometimes girl
And I'll not be your pet,
I'll no longer be an option
Nor the girl that you forget!

You broke my heart, you bruised my soul
And then you made me cry
I'll show you, dude, I won't be used
NOW THERE’S YOUR REASON WHY!!

COFFEE SHOPPE LOVE

I stepped into the Coffee Shoppe
To check out their buffet
With crepes and coffee on my mind
To start this perfect day

But there you stood in front of me
As I went up to pay
I looked to find the exit door
So I could run away

Although you hadn’t seen me yet
I made for my escape
But just as I began to run
They handed me my crepe

You turned and stared in disbelief
For it had been so long
And then I dropped my coffee cup
Oh this was just too wrong!

Red faced I bent to grab my cup
But then you reached it first
And as we touched each other’s hands
Forgotten was my thirst

You smiled, I smiled, and then we laughed
You said let’s have a seat.
Not quite what I expected
Again if we should meet

You ordered up more coffee and
We danced around the truth
But then you slid up next to me
Right there inside the booth

With your arm around my shoulders
You looked into my eyes
And said the words I’d wished for since
We said that last goodbye

“I longed for you for years’, you said.
“You haunted all my dreams
And just when I have given up,
Fate brings you here it seems.”

Then as you bent to kiss my lips
I reach out for you too
And then I spilled my coffee cup
Hot stains on me and you!

This couldn’t get much worse I thought
Afraid to meet your face
It’s then I heard you laugh and say
We better leave this place

So leave we did and just outside
You cupped me in your arms
And left no question in my mind
About your winning charms

“Do you want a cup of coffee, Love?”
You whispered with a smile…
And just before I kissed your lips
I said “Not for a while!”

DURANGO BOUND

It nearly took forever
For her to finally see
Her future lay before her
And the woman she could be

It was the beauty of the mountains
The gentle flowing streams
Which had caused in her a longing,
And filled her heart with dreams

She's sitting in the driver’s seat,
The San Juan’s in full view
It seems like only yesterday
When she was leaving you

With the roaring of the engine
Making the only sound
She’s flying down the highway
This Girl's Durango bound

In her Mustang full of boxes
Cup of coffee in her hand
She is thinking of tomorrow
Not thinking of the man

She’ll be free in Durango
In its lace of pristine snow
Where the rivers flow in springtime
And cool mountain breezes blow

It is here she’ll find adventure
It’s here she’ll find new life
It is here she’ll find a new love
In the starlit mountain night

She's sitting in the driver’s seat,
The San Juan’s in full view
It seems like only yesterday
When she was leaving you!

And the roaring of the engine
Makes the only sound
As she's flying down the highway,
This Girl's Durango bound.
